- Use a different format. There is nothing that requires event designers to use the same format every year. In fact, hosts and attendees alike will likely welcome changing up the format. You don’t have to make drastic changes either – it could be something as simple as modifying the way seating is arranged at a fashion or awards show. One year you could use theatre-like seating and the next round tables. Be creative!
- Get dramatic. Consider building a large custom prop that fits within the theme of the annual event and use it as a focal piece. But don’t stop there – take advantage of specialized lighting to highlight the backdrop for the evening. Take it a step further by tying table centerpieces to the larger piece and using mood lighting at entrances and walkways throughout the venue.
- What’s in style? Think about current fashion and design trends and use those as a base for the event’s theme. A black tie gala doesn’t have to be a traditional ball – if the season’s trend happens to be vintage, for example, why not make it a 1920s black tie ball? Space and time are fluid when it comes to event design and production.
